Benefit night of V. Korchnoi, Saint-Petersburg, 20-22.03-2001

A small party will gather on the 20th of March in the Olympia Casino. Victor Korchnoi is holding his 70th jubilee. Olympic Champions of different years are invited to amuse the outstanding player of the 20th century: M. Taimanov, S. Rublevsky, K. Sakaev. Now since several beating boys should be provided too, the St.Petersburg Chess Federation arranged a big open tournament with two qualifying places. There were eight grandmasters and a lot of masters competing for the honourable right, but the chance influenced the course of things, so the fifth player at the casino will be V. Popov, and the sixth will be your commentator who took second place by mistake. I want to apologise in advance for joining the high titled company. However the time control is harsh, just 15 min per game, so everybody will have a chance. Will the veterans beat the young lions or shall we see the change of generations? Lets wait. The event will last for three days only. We shall report the results very soon.
